Nappa Fest

I’m honored to come on board as producer for the upcoming film Nappa Fest based on the screenplay penned by writer Zachary Sasim.

A big wine festival is set to take place in surrealistic Wine Town, located in a wine producing area that is a mix of Tuscany and California. Vito Nappa, one of the local winery owners, hears from his friend, Roberto, that a film festival in honor of the famous director Marcelo Nappa will soon open in the neighboring town of Cinema City. Marcelo is Vito’s son.

Vito, however, has never seen or talked to Marcelo – Vito left Marcelo’s mother while she was still pregnant. Soon after she left the rural area for Big City. In anticipation of the wine festival, four tasters who will serve on the jury to assess and evaluate the wine arrive in Wine Town from Big City. They will visit all of the wineries that have entered the competition, judge their entries, and in the evening will publicly announce the winner.

One of the jury members, Gaylord, has recently broken up with his girlfriend. He is suffering and starts to drink the local wine – not only to evaluate it for the competition, but to get drunk and forget. And so he comes into conflict with another member of the jury, the domineering career-driven Rachel. Eventually, the jury member Gaylord, will manage to find a new girlfriend in Wine Town. Marcelo isn’t able to get to the opening of the film festival on time. He is stuck on a tropical island with his capricious and possessive girlfriend, who is suspicious of Marcelo’s executive assistant, Joanna – although it is his girlfriend herself who seems inclined to betray him. Vito Nappa dreams of winning the competition, but two thieves steal his best wine, the Cianti Classico.

Though winery security manages to find and return the wine to Vito, it is too late for him to take part in the competition. To add to this, Vito doesn’t feel well. Despite that, however, he rushes off to hear the announcement of the wine-tasting results – where he plans to accuse competitors of initiating the theft of his Cianti. But Vito has an epiphany, and he tempers his anger with kindness. Since Marcelo isn’t able to officially open the film festival, Roberto asks Vito to do so – and Vito appears at the official opening in Cinema City. Marcelo via Skype thanks his father for his assistance in opening the festival – in the end Roberto won’t be coming to Cinema City as he has to fly to Italy. But he invites his father, Vito, to visit him in Big City

Katherine of Alexandria US release date announced .

Decline Of An Empire “Katherine of Alexandria, a wonderful film starring amongst others, Nicole Keniheart and Peter O’Toole (on his last film role) will be released in the US under the title ‘Decline of an Empire’. I am happy to have created a collaboration, through ‘Cinema Music Consulting’, between composer John Koutselinis and KOA films. Katherine of Alexandria will be released on 12th August, by Lionsgate (US).
“Katherine of Alexandria, brought up as a nomad and living in the desert, was aged just 11 when Emperor Maxentius saw her whilst out on patrol. Consumed by her beauty, impudence and uncanny talent for languages, he abducted the child, killing her family. The slaughter was witnessed by her young friend, Constantine, who would later become Emperor of the Western Roman Empire. He never lost hope of finding Katherine. As a young woman, Katherine refused to submit to Maxentius’ offers of marriage and she continually denounced his brutal enforcement of pagan religion upon the masses. Still obsessed with her beauty, Maxentius brought Katherine before 50 of Rome’s finest scholars in an open court in Alexandria, where she eloquently demolished their arguments. When Constantine learned of Katherine’s whereabouts and imprisonment at the hands of Maxentius, he led his army from York in a desperate bid to save her.

Kay Hooper Film Adaptation Set To Be A Harry Potter/Twilight Franchise For Grownups?

As the Americanized “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” prepares to launch into theaters, many Hollywood insiders are hailing the return of the adult genre movie.

“I think recent R-rated comedies like ‘The Hangover’ and ‘Friends With Benefits’ have given mainstream movies their edge back,” says Writer/Producer/Director Richard O’Sullivan. “There seems to be a willingness in Hollywood now to push the envelope and not play it quite so safe. It’s a little like a daring return to the adventurous 70′s.”

O’Sullivan is banking on that trend continuing with the announcement that he’s optioned the popular Random House/Bantam Books fantasy novel, The Wizard of Seattle, penned by New York Times-best selling author Kay Hooper (Blood Ties), with the hopes that it can become a “more adult version” of such mega-franchises as Harry Potter and Twilight.

“With series like ‘Harry,’ the idea was quite literally to pull readers in at a young age, then let the characters and story mature with the audience,” says O’Sullivan. “Well now, that first crop of kids are young adults. They’re in adult relationships, living in the adult world. What I like about Kay’s book is that she uses things like wizardry and magic to explore male/female relationships in a very mature and complex manner. It’s fun, it’s sexy, and ultimately very thought provoking.”

The Wizard of Seattle, one of the earlier books from Hooper (who rose to superstardom in the literary world with her Bishop crime series), tells the story of two modern day wizards who must travel across time to fight for their right to love one another.

“It’s very timely,” says O’Sullivan. “I think it will resonate with a lot of people on a lot of different levels. Forbidden love is as old as humanity itself. Romeo loving Juliet, vampires loving vampire slayers. In a world where people are increasingly intolerant of people living their lives the way they wanna live them, I can think of no better metaphor. Plus, it’s got the potential to be a terrifically entertaining popcorn movie.”

O’Sullivan, last in the news for his part in the controversial, on-again/off-again Lindsay Lohan comeback vehicle “One Night With You,” is currently in pre-production to direct the groundbreaking horror film “Hallows,” produced by Dale Alexander Carnegie (whose recent remake of “Clash of the Titans” grossed some $500 million wordwide). He is not only signed to write the screenplay for “The Wizard of Seattle,” but will also produce the film along with Linda Parks of Far City Films, in association with Gilberto Vera of Verge Films.
